om Stolpman is one of the preeminent trial attorneys in the United States–one of a very limited number of lawyers who have been elected as Fellows of both the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers, sand as an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Tom has obtained hundreds of six, seven and eight figure verdicts and settlements for clients since his admission to the Bar in 1976, in cases ranging from personal injury and Wrongful Death claims (motor vehicle accidents, products liability, maritime injuries, premises liability and other types of cases), insurance bad faith, and commercial disputes.

As he likes to tell people, he has a passion for changing victims’ lives for the better after a calamity destroys the fabric of his clients’ and their families’ lives.

In addition to his experience in the courthouse, he has served both the Bar and his community in many leadership capacities, including terms as President of several organizations such as the State Bar of California, the Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is currently or in the past has served on the Board of Governors of the State Bar, Consumer Attorneys of California and Los Angeles, ABOTA (National and Los Angeles Chapter) and the Long Beach Bar Association.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Long Beach Grand Cru, a fundraising food and wine event and international wine competition which benefits the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, for over 15 years.and as Chair of the Competition Committee

Because of his depth and breadth of experience, he is frequently called upon to lecture and teach in continuing legal education programs and trial schools.

EDUCATION

Tom graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in History, being named a Chancellor’s Marshal and then attended the Gould School of Law at the University of Southern California, representing USC in the National Moot Court Competition, where he was named Best Oral Advocate and received the Best Brief Award in the Ninth Circuit Competition before advancing to the Finals.

BUSINESS EXPERIENCE

Demonstrating the entrepreneurial skills for which he is also known, Mr. Stolpman was a partner in Carriage Trade Parking Service, then the second largest valet parking operator in the world, while attending college and law school.

In 1990, he purchased a 220 acre ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley and currently oversees Stolpman Vineyards, LLC, growing much sought after wine grapes and producing world class wines.

HONORS AND AWARDS

Tom has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 1988, and has been a “Super Lawyer” ever since that term was invented in the 1990’s.

He was named the 1984 Southern California Trial Lawyer of the Year by Verdictum Juris, publisher of jury verdict and settlement summaries. He was honored as Lawyer of the year by the Long Beach Bar Association in 2001. He was recognized for his contributions to the Plaintiffs’ Bar in 1992 when re received the Ted Horn Award.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION

Tom was awarded Certificate of Experience by the California Trial Lawyers Association I as a Trial lawyer, and in Professional Negligence, General Personal Injury, Products Liability, Insurance Bad Faith, Appellate-Law & Motion and Public Entity Liability. He was first certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a Civil Trial Advocate in 1986. He was named Lawyer of the Year by the Long Beach bar Association in 2001.
